How to delete pages from a PDF (blank, duplicate or extra pages)

2026-11-04

A scanned document with a blank back of every page. A bank statement where you only need the first two pages. A report where the same page was added twice. In all of these, the fix is the same: delete the pages you don't want and keep the rest.

Our Remove pages tool does this in your browser, with a picture of every page so you can see exactly what you are removing.

Delete pages step by step

  1. Open Remove pages.
  2. Select your PDF. A small picture of every page appears, numbered from 1.
  3. Click or tap each page you want to delete. It gets a red cross. Tap it again if you change your mind.
  4. You can also type page numbers in the Pages to remove box, for example 2, 5-7 to remove page 2 and pages 5, 6 and 7. The pictures and the box always match, so you can mix both ways.
  5. The line under the pages tells you how many pages will go and how many will be left, for example 3 pages will be removed. 9 of 12 will be left.
  6. Click Remove 3 pages (the button counts for you) and download the new PDF.

Your original file is not changed. The new one is saved with -edited at the end of its name.

You can't remove every page, because a PDF needs at least one. If you try, the tool tells you to keep at least one page.

Typing page ranges

The box understands a few simple patterns:

  • 3 removes page 3.
  • 2, 4, 6 removes pages 2, 4 and 6.
  • 5-8 removes pages 5 to 8.
  • 1, 10-12 removes page 1 and pages 10 to 12.

Typing is handy for long documents. For a 200-page file, 150-200 is quicker than tapping 51 pictures.

Common situations

Blank pages from a double-sided scan

Scanners set to scan both sides add a blank page after every one-sided sheet. Look through the pictures and tap the empty ones. Some blank pages are not quite white because of the paper texture or show-through from the other side, so check them at a glance rather than trusting the page numbers.

Duplicate pages after merging

If you merged files and one page appears twice, remove the copy. Next time, check the page count in Merge PDF before merging: it tells you how many pages the new PDF will have.

Sending only part of a document

Sometimes it's easier to say which pages to keep. If you only need pages 3 and 4 of a 40-page statement, use Extract pages instead and choose those two pages. Or use Split PDF to cut the document into several parts at once. Our guide on splitting a PDF explains the difference.

The file is too large to upload

Removing pages you don't need is often the easiest way to make a PDF smaller. Instruction pages, cover pages and blank pages all add size. If it's still too big, continue to Compress PDF from the Download screen. See how to compress a PDF to 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB.

Deleting a page versus covering it

If a page has private information you don't want to share, such as an account number or a home address, deleting the page is the safest choice. The page and everything on it is gone from the new file.

Covering something with a white box is different. In our Edit PDF tool, Whiteout also takes out the text underneath when you save. But if the page is a scan or a photo, the whole page is one picture, and a white box only covers part of that picture. When in doubt, remove the page.

Rearranging instead of deleting

If the pages are all needed but in the wrong order, don't delete and re-add them. Use Organize PDF to drag them into the right order, or Rotate PDF if some are sideways.

Is it private?

Yes. Remove pages runs entirely in your browser. The PDF is never uploaded to our server, so it's safe for bank statements and personal papers, and quick even on a slow connection.

Quick checklist

  • Look at the pictures, not just the page numbers.
  • Check the line under the pages: does the number left look right?
  • Download the new file and flip through it once before you send it.
  • Keep the original until you're sure nothing important was removed.
