Split PDF vs Extract pages: which one do you need?

2026-10-27

You received a 40-page PDF and need only part of it. DoPDF has two tools for this, and choosing the right one saves time.

Use Split PDF when you want several files

Split PDF creates one new PDF for each range you type.

Example: a scanned bundle contains your 10th marksheet (page 1), 12th marksheet (page 2) and degree certificate (pages 3 to 4). A portal asks for each separately. Type 1, 2, 3-4 and you get three files in one ZIP download.

You can also choose Every page as a separate PDF to break a document into single pages.

Use Extract pages when you want one file

Extract pages puts all the pages you choose into one new PDF, in the order you type them.

Example: from a 30-page project report, you want to send your guide only the abstract (page 2) and results (pages 18 to 21). Type 2, 18-21 and you get one five-page PDF.

Use Remove pages when you want almost everything

If you want to keep most of the document and drop only a few pages, Remove pages is quicker. Type the pages to delete, such as blank pages from a scan.

Use Organize PDF when you want to see the pages

Organize PDF shows a thumbnail of every page. Move, rotate and delete pages visually, which is easiest when you don't know the page numbers.

Page range tips

  • 1-5 means pages 1 to 5.
  • 8- means page 8 to the end.
  • Separate ranges with commas: 1-3, 7, 10-12.

All four tools run in your browser, so your documents are not uploaded.
