How to remove the password from a bank statement PDF
2026-10-27
Banks, credit card companies and employers usually email statements and salary slips as password-protected PDFs. This protects your information if the email goes to the wrong person. But typing the password every time you open the file, or uploading it to a loan or visa portal that can't read protected files, is a hassle.
What you need
You need the current password. Our tool removes a password you already know; it does not guess or break passwords. The email that came with the statement usually explains the format, which is often a mix of your name, date of birth, customer ID or the last digits of your account or card number.
Steps
- Open Unlock PDF.
- Select the protected PDF.
- Type the current password.
- Click Unlock PDF and download the copy without a password.
If you see "That password is not correct", check capital letters and the date format (for example DDMM or DDMMYYYY).
Should you remove the password?
Only unlock files that belong to you, and only when you need to. Keep the unlocked copy in a safe place, such as a password-protected folder or phone. If you need to send it to someone, you can add a new password of your own with Protect PDF.
Turning a statement into a spreadsheet
Want to total your expenses? After unlocking, try PDF to Excel, which moves the transaction table into spreadsheet cells. Check the result, because statement layouts vary between banks.
What happens to my file?
Unlocking runs on our server. Your file and password are used for that one conversion and deleted immediately afterwards. We never keep a copy.
