How to sign a PDF without printing it
2026-10-27
Rental agreements, school forms, offer letters and consent forms often arrive as PDFs that need your signature. Instead of printing, signing and scanning, you can add your signature directly.
Steps
- Open Sign PDF.
- Select the PDF.
- Draw your signature in the box with your finger (on a phone) or mouse.
- Choose the page (usually the last page) and the position.
- Click Sign PDF and download the signed copy.
Tip: draw your signature slowly and large; it is scaled down neatly on the page.
Is this signature legally valid?
A drawn signature like this is an image of your handwritten signature. It is accepted for many everyday purposes, such as school forms, internal approvals and many agreements, in the same way a scanned signature is.
Some official processes, such as certain government filings, require a certified digital signature (in India, a Digital Signature Certificate or Aadhaar-based eSign). If a form specifically asks for one of these, a drawn signature is not enough. When in doubt, ask the person who sent you the document.
Keep it safe
- Your signature and document are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
- Send signed documents only to people you trust.
- If you send a signed PDF by email, consider adding a password with Protect PDF.
